Back when Superior Spider-Man was announced fans knew that Peter Parker would no longer be behind the infamous mask. There was a ton of speculation as to who the new Spidey would be. Some guesses were a returning Ben Riley, Parker clone Kaine, or even possibly Eddie Brock would assume the mantle of Spider-Man. One dark horse candidate was Miguel O’Hara better known as Spider-Man 2099. We all know that Otto Octavious ended up becoming the new Spider-Man but the rumors of Miguel O’Hara persisted.
At C2E2 this last weekend it was announced that Miguel O’Hara would be meeting the Superior Spider-Man in the upcoming issue #17 of the title. Not only that but some hints were dropped by Dan Slott. One of the biggest is that a member of the Osborn family will play in role in this meeting.
“Well, we are assuming that it’s not Norman and that’s an assumption that you are making. You will see that there is an Osborn family member involved. And we’ve been building stuff up with the Green Goblin since ‘Superior Spider-Man’ #4. I’m not going to say whether it’s Norman ‘cause all we’ve really [seen] since then is that his bed in the coma ward is empty and that the Green Goblin has shown up. We have not seen the mask off yet.”
It should be interesting to see how all of this plays out, especially with a Green Goblin of some kind being involved. Time travel is playing a huge part in a lot of Marvel books right now. For example, look at the Age of Ultron mini-series. This whole series is built around time travel. Now, I have no idea if Spider-Man 2099 jumping back in time will have the same repercussions as the Age of Ultron but it will be really cool to see.
Well put. As a huge Spider-Man fan I have been enjoying Superior Spider-Man and I’m stoked to see how Miguel O’hara a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099 plays into the story. Peter David’s 42 issue run on Spider-Man 2099 was an epic read and I can’t wait to see how Slott and Stegman treat the character.
I’m a big Spidey 2099 fan. I don’t care for Superior Spidey but this might bring me back for a sec.
